We are really excited to join forces with pianist Timothy End for the last concert of our Young Artists series. Together we will perform a new arrangement of Shostakovich’s brilliant Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2 (arranged for us by James Sherlock) and Pedro Iturralde’s, jazz influenced, Memorias. First the concert opens with one of French composer Jean Rivier’s most famous works for saxophone quartet, Grave et Presto.
Lago is better known as Willem van Merwijk, the baritone saxophone player with the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. Ciudades is a series of musical sketches of cities that have a special meaning to Lago. The various city portraits are a strong favourite amongst Ferio audiences. In this concert Ferio perform a selection: Tokyo, Sarajevo and Addis Ababa.
